I'm getting to be a pro now :P Dash off, vent controller swapped and back on inside 15 minutes - greasy hair traces wiped off the rear view mirror as well :) The number 7 hole on the back of the new dash vent controller was indeed open, just like all the others - I swapped the controller with my original and it works fine now. Both vent controllers had exactly the same part number. I suppose the dash must've come from a different model, perhaps one with a re-circulation switch and a vent over the ventilation cold air intake. Anyway, problem solved :) Back to black (rather than that crap Rover 800-style tacky veneer) and all retaining lugs intact. Paul 1989 900 Turbo S http://saab.go.dyndns.org/
