Are you sure it's the original tranny? If so, you just got lucky. > While we're on transaxles, will synthetic oil do anything to cure the lazy > syncros on 1-2 shifts? If anything, it might make them worse; too slippy perhaps. First two things to check for, are vacuum leaks, and a mechanical rattle. Leaks throw off all the computations, and a rattle might be heard by the computer which thinks it's ping (predetonation) and backs boost down. > Sometimes when I > plug it back in the solenoid will click about 20 times and then stop. I'd start there; it's either being told to click (electrical issue), or it's got an internal problem. That's not normla, and could explain much of what you describe. > Only thing I can think of is with 146k > miles, the solenoid isn't holding shut under boost as well as it used to and > pressure is leaking past, opening the wastegate and killing my boost. > Possible? Heard of this happen before? Good theory based on your description, yes. Not a common problem that I've noticed, but stuff does break sometimes. Dave Hinz
