As someone whose training is in science (chemistry) I think that the metric system, in conjunction with the SI, has made a huge contribution to scientific standards. It has given us a global common language. As a result of using it every day in the lab for years and years, I'm more comfortable with it than with our imperial system. However, I still ask for pints and measure my distance in miles. -- Grunff
