True but the marketers caught on that the only mid to high range hatches were Saabs and they sold in the US in numbers too small to be credible. The conclusion is that 'no one wants a cheap hatchback' in the US. Even Honda stopped the 3 dr accord in '87 (US market). The numbers back it up, but I will have to work pretty hard to keep my 9k going because there is nothing to replace it. Many people like the looks of the std 3 box design. That trunk lids keep getting smaller, may portend the return of hatches in the US. Have you ever tried to put anything bulky in a late model midsize trunk. There is a lot of room, but no way to get anything in it. I refer to the current trunks as 'mail slots'. Think Audi, Volvo, VW, MB, etc...
