I don't know if the blocks match up out as late as '86 - but - you could look around for an early 900 4 speed box if you have gone sour down under.. I always found the motor had more than enough red line in it to strap the 4 speed really well - and - it was an absolute tractor in service.. I think I put well over 650,000km on one I passed up through two 900 bodies.. The price is more clutch use - so you want a serious set of fresh plates in there if you ever do swap in a 4 speed tranny.. I don't like the 5 speed as much as it isn't really a true overdrive (which I was hoping for).. You get a MUCH sportier run on the 5 speed for sure - but I found the 4 speed more tractable and smooth in foul weather and less tiring everyday driving.. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else actually knows how late a 4 speed would mate up with a 900 series.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day Rocky Horror Picture Show - I'm Going Home http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/109.RAM
