I dunno if Dieselin¥ petrol cars are popular at all in the US. However I guess the CEO of Cadillac from say 1979 still has screaming wake-up¥s at night about their little diesel adventure :-))) (And things even got worse, with the V8-6-4) On the other hand, the US got Mercedes S-class diesel already in the late 70¥s I think. the 300SD (w116) and (W126) 350SD. I don¥t know how they succeeded, but out here we only got S-class diesels from the W140, around 1993...
