Depends on how the engine is used. Since the turbo promotes torque, a turbo charged engine needs fewer rpm for the same effort, hence less wear than a NA engine for the same driving style. A well engineered turbo engine can be extremely reliable. Turbos are widely used in many places; trucks, trains, busses, ambulances, boats and even some light airplanes.
