Subject: Notice to 94-98 900 convertible owners

Friends: If you own an NG900 convertible, I would highly suggest that you do the "tonneau motor mount brace" modification as soon as you have 2-3 hours to spare. If your tonneau cover makes any odd noises while being raised/lowered or moves abruptly, you need the repair immediately. Don't use your top until you fit it. I just got done doing mine yesterday. After seeing what happens, I think that every NG900 convertible will need this repair, sooner or later. By doing it before you "need" it, you can avoid a possible tonneau motor replacement at a cost of $500 used/rebuilt to $1200 new/dealer (usd). The repair kit only costs $10 but it will not help you if you've already ruined the gears of the motor. There is no repair kit for the motor. There's a great TSB on this, thoughtfully provided by Taliaferro Saab: http://www.genuinesaab.com/psi/900%2Bcv%2Btop.pdf . The TSB covers all the grimy details of installing the brace kit at your workbench. Medium level mechanical skills and only basic tools are needed. It does not cover the actual removal of the motor from the car but that is not too difficult: I'd be happy to put together a set of directions for anyone who needs it. FYI, Bob
