If the car is a recent model then the plugs are also used as sensors
to sense combustion ionization inside the cylinders with the goal to
control the combustion process and to detect predetonation/knocking.
As the system is designed to use a certain NGK plug it may falsely
detect predetonation or other bogous measurements when the wrong
type of plugs are used.
