I recently discovered after a post on this newsgroup that there is a cheap and direct replacement for R-12. Problem is that is fine, what if there is a leak and you can't find it? Dye in refrigerant does not seem to show up under visual or black light. I do not have access to an electronic hydrocarbon sniffer (replacement refrigerant is HC). If I use compressed air, listen for hisses or use soapy water, do I have to replace the drier and evacuate? I know with R-12 you would, but with HC? Actually, 86 SAAB is working at the moment, it is the Jeep that is leaking like a sieve. Charles.
