Hey brother Jules - first - google back for my other post on this thread regarding who and how to inspect a SAAB.. While it's long - you'll get the flavor of the requirements.. As to deceleration bump - several possible things - engine mounts are a little soft - TCS (if so fettled) is kicking in and touching breaks for you (very probably incorrectly) - tranny filter/fuild getting old - CV/Ball or control arm joint/bush is a little loose somewhere.. If you are used to V6 or lower power 4 banger - there is a very noticeable power difference in the High Output Turbo SAAB between shifts.. When it kicks down on deceleration - you are putting considerable resistance torque into play as it downshifts (the 'curve' is not as flat as V6 or lower power 4's).. After many years of using my clutch pretty much exclusively to slow down my 900's it was pointed out by my master wrench-meister at the time that - while it was intensely exciting sounding and all to use engine breaking where and when ever possible - brake pads are cheap and easy to replace.. I prefer manuals and the older 4 speed tranny at that - but any SAAB that had one has long been melted down into Hondas.. The five speed, while not a true overdrive, is so because if smoothes that power jump down considerably on both deceleration and acceleration.. I have settled into a 9000T automatic as that's what was available at the price and no, it is not exceptional - although no worse than any other 4 speed auto out there.. Mine hunts around 60kph for shift point both ways - which is very annoying in traffic as I end up rolling along at a higher RMP than I would if I had a manual and often going a little faster than I would to get the higher gear.. Maybe - just maybe - I can solve that next fall.. Everyone keep your your wires crossed for me - I may have found a good donor - now I just have to bring in a little extra dough over the summer before anyone else finds her.. :).. My take - when you are decelerating - you are just feeling the compression of the turbo and big 2.3 engine snapping in.. But again - I hope you find my longer and more detailed article on buying old SAAB helpful.. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day Clapton The Band - Further On Up the Road http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/091.RAM
