Subject: The clutches of evil.......

Greetin's all, Had an interesting clutch episode on the '97 900 SE convert the other day..... returning from a road trip I pulled up to the mailbox to unload what piled up for a few days. When I released the clutch the engagement point had changed radically. Previously the clutch would begin to engage coming right off the firewall, just the way I like it. Full engagement would occur somewhere around 50 - 75% of pedal travel. This time the engagement point was the same, however the clutch was fully engaged in less than 20% of pedal travel. The balance of the pedal travel had no effect and although everything worked fine it was hard to shift and wouldn't go into reverse at all with the vehicle running..... jsut some grinding and gnashing. I figured since there was no previous indication of impending clutch problems..... no slipping, no binding..... that this was probably a cable problem. Under the hood I reached under the fuse box and gave the cable a little tug. Must've been a bitt of slack cuz afterwards everything returned to normal. At times I'm catching the toe of my clutch foot on something above the pedal depending on which shoes/boots I'm wearing. I s'pose I may have introduced some slack in the cable that way. Just wondering if anyone's got any thoughts on this? On another note, I haven't been driving the convertible much since Spring has sprung in NE Ohio. I figured with top-down weather here occasionally and getting more frequent I'd be zipping all over the place in it. However, since buying this car last December something's occurred that I hadn't considered........ I'm a motorcycle junkie. Before buying this car there was never any question that if it was above 50 degrees F and not quite a monsoon I'd be on one of the bikes. I ride 'em to work, on trips..... everywhere. And I'd rather be on two wheels than four *any* time it's possible. So a sweet convertible has been sitting gathering dust. It's got me scratching my head. I'd wanted a Turbo convertible for a long time before finding *just* the one I was looking for. And now it's sitting more often than not when the weather screams for topless driving. ::::sigh:::: Geeez, now I'm thinking of peddling the car I lusted after for so long. Seems like *somebody* oughta be enjoying it. Thoughts anyone? TL
