Some mechanics use a tool/extension called a "Torque stick", which allegedly lets them use the airgun without problems. They have a calibrated wobble/ length/etc and a number stamped into them. Problem is, that number is relative to the air impact wrench, and isn't an absolute torque spec. Perhaps Simon's mechanic is claiming it's impossible, because he's using a torque stick and doesn't understand that that's a relative, rather than an absolute number. A google for the term "torque stick" gives some interesting reading. Dave Hinz
