Subject: Re: reliability of the 93 TID

Nice discussion but it probably wont help you much in your decisionfinding. The 9-3 is only with a 2.2 l engine available. Originally it had 115 hp, starting 2001 it came with 125 hp. I bought a 9-3 2.2 l TID in february last year. It was a car from SAAB Germany and had 4000 km. Since then I made 32.000 km. I heard that some owners need some oil. I believe that it is a matter of "drive culture": an engine - especially a diesel - needs to be warmed up. And that takes more than 5 minutes! My car needs normally not more than 100 ml / 1000 km. SAAB allows up to 1 l / 1000 km. If you drive some 100 km with full throttle it takes in fact some oil (max. 1 l / 1000 km) but if you stay below 180 km / hour there is no influence. The fuel comsumption is between 6.1 L / 100 km (at 120 kmph with some towns inbetween) and 8.9 L / 100 km (at permanent full throttle). My personal average is about 7.0 L / 100 km including town, highway and "autobahn". Noise remains a typical diesel but is very low. I had a 900 SE turbo (185 hp) before which had not much more acceleration quality up to 100 km/h. It could have a little bit more power for sportive driving above 100 km (max speed is only 200). The only technical problem I had was a faulty fuel gauge. It was a warranty-point. Otherwise I had no problems at all. The 9-5 comes with two diesel-engines. The 3.0 l is a six-cylinder from GM. The 2.2 l is a SAAB engine with "GM-influence". The 9-3 comes only with the small engine. A friend of mine is a SAAB mechanic. He doesnĄt know about technical problems with the diesel (2.0l). Sorry about my bad english, I havenĄt exercised a while. Hope it helps Dieter "Nick" <ano4evernopsamo.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:bd67v4$nfr$1nopsamer1.tiscali.nl... > I want to buy a 93 TID after driving a Mercedes D for a long time. > I need a diesel for making a lot of km. > Never had any problem with the Mercedes except for some small repairs. > Now i have set my mind on this stylefull Saab. > Can anyone tell what i can expect from a Saab TID and what to look for? > > Thanks.. > > > > >
