Not necessarily. I have an '02 9-5 Aero wagon. Loading stuff like bikes into the wagon is MUCH harder than loading into a hatchback, since you have to load it more horizontally. A hatchback provides a more horizontal opening, allowing you to drop stuff into it. I have an unconventional bike (a recumbent, see http://www.ransbikes.com/2003Lineup/VRex.htm) and I can get it in no problem. But that's because I can take advantage of the wheels to "roll" it in on its side. I haven't tried to put a second adult bike in there, but putting my kid's 20" bike on top is a challenge. I also find my Aero has less room in the rear than either my old 900 or 9000. The recumbent bike is a much tighter fit than it was in either of those cars. Gary
