Subject: OT: Cell phones and driving

> > The best choice would be to STOP USING THE PHONE WHILE DRIVING! > > But that makes too much sense for some people. I never thought that driving and talking on a cell phone was that big of a deal, this was until I almost rear ended someone in a little VW Cabriolet with my great big SUV (First generation Ford Explorer). This is the situation: I was lost, it was getting dark, and I was entering a town square with lots of cars coming and going. I approached an intersection, there was a police officer waiting to turn (coming the other way). As I was eyeing the police man (they make me nervous), my cell phone rang, I went to grab it- which made me take my eyes off the road, when I looked back at the road, the car in front of me had stopped to make a left hand turn. I was going about 25-30mph and had to SLAM on the brakes... and I skidded right past the police man. Needless to say, the police man was not impressed, and I was just about ready to have to change my boxers! Long point made short: Cell phones are yet another distraction to a job that most people don't take seriously enough. AND Saabs stop much better and with less noise ;-) (my '91 SUV doesn't have ABS in the front, I never understood why they didn't just put early ABS on the rear wheels... When you lock up the front wheels, you can't steer! Granted a truck/suv tends to fishtail without ABS on slippery surfaces, why not just go all out and to all 4 wheels?) Enough of my ranting, ENOUGH! -Chris '99 9-3 '94 900SE V6 '87 9000S *RIP*
