Subject: Re: Hydraulic Help

It can be difficult to carry out what I term telephone diagnosis, but this may be of some help. The clutch cover pushes the slave cylinder piston back which pushes the fluid back to the master cylinder which pushes the pedal up. there is a small return spring inside the master cyl thatreturns the piston to the top of the bore. there is also a larger spring on the pedal that helps the pedal return. It would be an idea to check by looking down the hole where the bleed nipple is and check wether or not the clutch is still depressed when the pedal does not return. If the clutch is still depressed then either the clutch cover is going over centre or something is preventing the fluid from returning. If the fluid is not returning and you opened the bleed nipple you would get a squirt of fluid equal to one pedal press. The logical conclusion to the fluid not returning would either be a collapsed hose acting as a one way valve or the piston in the master cylinder jamming. One other thing that I have seen on a couple of occasions is one of the anti judder springs in the centre plate breaking, falling out of the centre plate and getting tangled up in the fingers of the cover plate preventing it from returning. I have also seen a centre plate siezed onto the first motion shaft. also beware the cheap shit cylinders made in spain, they are a disaster waiting to happen. When the pedal stays on the floor are you able to select gears ok but get no drive? On the pedal down stroke when the pedal stays down do you have normal pedal preesure? What are the symptoms now, and what has been done to try and rectify the problem? As I type this a thought has passed over the grey cells, Has the weld split where the clutch pedal joins the cross shaft that carries the pivot that goes to the rod that pushes the piston in the master cylinder? That could well be the cause of your problem, HTH Tom.
