True on many levels, but false on others. There may not be many enforcable rules, but many of the better newsgroups have a strong sense of community and social control. My reaction to the Dutch language post should be seen as a attempt to correct an undesirable trend as I see it. Predictably, many members (usenet is no club either though), disagreed with me, in my view because they don't see the risk of a deteriorating group. I've been on Usenet longer than most, since about '91, which, unfortunately means I've seen a lot of useful groups fall apart and become utterly useless. It's hard to believe now, but in my early net-days even alt.sex was an interesting *discussion* group. The language thing is one of my pet-peeves. I usually limit myself to try correcting my fellow countrymen, but I still think it's a good cause. Holland is a tiny cuntry and Dutch is a small language. Imagine what would happen if all the... Oh well, I'm repeating myself ;-) X.
