The Probe was built in a joint factory, had essentially the same chassis and engine. The nameplate was a bolt-on. I had an 89 probe GT, which had a turbo, (and was the primary reason for getting a Saab *with* a turbo). The differences between the probe and MX6-GT were body style and interior design. IMHO, the probe was far superior. However, there were numerous problems, and mazda/ford reliability was nothing compared to what I hope to get out of the Saab (2000 9-5 lpt). Ford redesigned the probe (which was a rather square car, but somewhat intimidating) into something more rounded, while dropping off features right and left, trip computer was gone. Changed the turbo 4 2.2L to a 6 cylinder... etc... Finally discontinued the line in roughly 1998 or so. Rather sad thing, really, I was quite fond of the car. Replaced it with a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which rode better (suspension was different, held the road better, so it felt), but had a choppier ride and no turbo. Harvey
