You'll have to look around at parts yards like Goldwing and English-Swedish for the tranny. As for replacing it yourself, it is a big job. I just did it last April on my '95 Aero and it took three hours to remove and another three plus a bit longer to install, and that is if you have someone in the mix that knows what he's doing. The hardest part is coaxing, more like forcing, the tranny back into its place against the engine. I would recommend spending $25 for a pair of alignment studs to guide the tranny in, which I didn't have but will the next time I try this (perish the thought!). These are available as service parts from your Saab dealer, and maybe elsewhere. Also, get a factory service manual. If you don't have the studs you'll spend 30 minutes or more trying to shoehorn the damn thing back in place, and in so doing you may damage something in the process. Be advised that a pre-'94 transaxle will not fit your '96.
