thanks for the suggestions... also of note: the steering has A LOT of play -- and i have to turn the wheel twice as much as i used to. in fact, i can shake the wheel left to right maybe 10-15 degrees and the car HARDLY moves. i test drove another '99 9-3 yesterday -- this one an SE model. the same left to right wheel shake sent the car swerving back and forth. does this trigger any other thoughts for anyone? thanks again. robert in ny
