I had similar symptoms on my 1996 900SE, and delayed getting it fixed because (a) I have become concerned about how much ANY work costs on this car, and (b) I could relieve the condition by putting a piece of aluminum foil in front of the radiator. A few weeks ago, I finally bit the bullet, and figured the local gas station could fix the problem, since it was a very routine repair. The total cost was just over $100.
