Subject: Leatherette door cards

Okay, some here will know about me and my SAAB and how meticulous I am about the thing ... No expense spared when it comes to my Orca :) How come when you fix one thing you mess up everything else? I've enjoyed a trouble free SAABing experience for a good number of months now, so while sitting at traffic lights and while cleaning the car out at the weekends, I get to looking at the door cards and the rear parcel shelf. Both have cig burns from when I used to smoke and the rear parcel shelf is all worn and a nasty purple-ish colour - same as the floor carpet. I thought I'd re-cover the parcel shelf and perhaps fabricate some solid door cards out of thin MDF or something ... Someday ... Wandering around Leeds today, I came across a tool shop ... Popped in an stumbled across some leatherette. Nice! Yeah, NICE! "That'll work really well with my black leather interior", I thought. I bought a couple of metres square and re-covered the parcel shelf, the rear speaker housings and the door cards. I tried glue first and realised that it just wasn't going to hold well for the door cards, so many staples and a lot of swearing later ... Luckily leatherette is self-healing, so any staples that popped all the way through just needed rounding off and the leatherette settled down fine. Yes, of course, pictures will follow. IT LOOKS ULTRA-BLING ... PURE PORN STAR :) :) :) ... But ... It really makes the carpet look dirty and the headlining look old and tired. I've also noticed that the stitching in my driver's seat is starting to go ... Grrrr! How come when you fix one thing you notice half a dozen other jobs? Looks like I'm going to have to shell out more money on a new headlining and carpet ... Typical :) Ho hum! That's the worst of my problems. Life's great when you drive a classic SAAB?
