One think to consider if you take the unit out to check the brushes and they are indeed worn, then (a) where might you get replacement brushes from? and (b) if the brushes are badly worn, might the armature be damaged? I don't know if you are UK based (I am) but I had a blower problem similar to you (although I do not have ACC) and thought of checking the brushes etc. In the end and before I started any work, I got a secondhand blower unit from www.twostroke.co.uk and just replaced the old blower. This cost me 45 GBP including next day delivery. At that price it's not worth thinking about the brushes if like me you just wanted the car back on the road soonest. Cheers.
