I have a 2001 9-3 and change my own oil. I get the filters from the dealer so I alway get a new copper washer. Rule of thumb from my father is don't over tighten, you can alway tighten it again if it leaks. Appropriate torque as quoted by my old man is "two fingers on an eight inch wrench" not accurate or precise but it hasn't failed my yet.
