Why isn't Usenet widely known when most browsers have a news option of some sort, there's dejanews, and, I think, Yahoo has some sort of primary news mechanism. One of the IC manufacturers has someone who at least informally monitors one of the relevant newsgroups and regularly offers advice, product suggestions, etc.
