Subject: 2000 saab 9-3 convertible 5th bow cylinders

Hi, Guys, I have a 2000 9-3 convertible, enjoy it so far. Last week, the SID showed "check soft top cover" error message, I thought it was the microswitch, but the dealer think differently. They said 5th bow cylinders on both side timed out. To repair it will cost at least 1500 ($500 echo cylinder and 500 for their labor). I still think something wrong within the passenger side micoswitch area. Because there is a piece of grey plastic part, which was pressable on both sides. But the passenger side one got stuck then just fell off to the deep inside. It expose the metal part under it. Does anybody know what is that part? Dealer was asked to check those but they did not say anything. Guess they just ignored it. I asked dealer to refill the fluid and took the car back. Talk to a local saab shop but that guy did not work on convertible tops. Now my question is how long those bow cylinders last? May I use parts from junk yard? I guess I can probably find them used but not sure how long they last. Because I can not avoid paying 500 for dealers labor. Thanks a lot.
