In comparison driving now is a pretty lame affair with the biggest excitement being beating some boy racer away from traffic lights - some excitement! Consequently if one is going to be often stuck in traffic, negotiating pot holes and speed humps I believe some comfort is called for. Whilst my NG900 is more comfortable than my small turbo diesel it is not as good as my daughters 4.7 Grand Cherokee or my sons V6 Freelander. Clearly the big wheels and good sprung/unsprung weight ratio helps, plus the seats like armchairs. As regards the gas guzzling comments from a Saab group this is odd, is a Saab such an economical vehicle with about 24 mpg round town? Using the gas guzzling theme we should all be in 800cc boxes or the proper route of electric cars charged overnight from nuclear power stations. I agree with you about the Rover, de dion rear axle IIRC.
