Subject: Psycho power window - a final (I hope) follow-up

The saga began when ... I asked for some advice in December 2003 under the subject "Power Window with a mind of its own wants to open by itself - 89 900 Aero/SPG" and received lots of useful advice from exorcism to cleaning the switch. I cleaned the switch (and swore at it a few times) and the problem went away for a while. A few months later we went into cooler weather when the window demon seems to hibernate and things were quiet until we got back into warm weather when the demon awoke again. I cleaned the switch again and it made no difference. I phoned my service place and was advised that I could get a new or working second hand switch. Feeling safe, I decided to modify the switch to disable the auto-down feature. That seems to do the job, I thought, but no, as soon as it got warm again, down she goes. I was sure that I heard a click, like a relay shutting off, just before the window stopped trying to wind down. But my service place ensures me that there's no relay in the circuit. I was planning to pull the trim off the door to have a look inside, but didn't get a round tuit. Finally, service time again and I persuaded them to pull the trim off. Guess what :-) There's a small item on the invoice to replace a relay. The foreman (who has been working on Saabs for 20 years) said, blushing, "I didn't know there was a relay in there". Vindication!!! I'll be driving up north at Christmas, so that should give it a test in hot, humid weather. Fingers crossed :-) -- Regards. Richard.
