Subject: engine rumble

about six months ago i had a cylinder head gasket job done on my 1998 72k miles 9-5 lpt turbo 2.3se - with a new turbo and throttle fitted also. since then the car has developed an intermittent audible low pitched throaty rumble coming from the lower console when accelerating in 2nd gear and occasionally in third. it didn't do it before the repair. it is now getting gradually worse and more frequent. i've taken it into a couple of local garages and of course it didn't do it on a test drive!! (a bit like when your toothache suddenly gets better when you go to the dentist.) It sounds to me like something is 'loose' and only vibrates at certain revs/frequencies. had a good look and all seems well. the car has been recently serviced and MOT'd successfully. any suggestions as to what it might be? thanks.
