When GM bought Saab, they wanted to reduce the cost of the car so GM could make more profit. The approach used was/is to use as many common components as possible across all GM lines to get the parts cheaper - economy of scale. The results are as expected. I test drove a brand new Hummer, with the salesman proudly telling me how it has GM parts. The same electrical issues that plague Saabs (SIDs failing) were present in the brand new Hummer. The answer from the salesman - why worry, these problems will be fixed for free under warranty. The same has been repeated by many GM Saab owners - many problems fixed under warranty. So, the question for you, is this Saab you are considering still under warranty? I had a GM Saab and experienced the same situation.
