Basic A.C. troubleshooting

• No cold air
  • Does the clutch engage the compressor?
  • No?  
    • freon level low
    • bad relay (behind the glovebox)
    • fuse blown
    • bad compressor clutch
  • Yes?
    • temperature mix flap problem
      • Broken temp mix flap arm/disconnected control wire
      • Binding/worn/misaligned temp mix flaps
      • Bad temp mix flap control motor

       

• Poor cooling or varying air temp
  • Have system pressures checked
    • see Townsend site/talk to the tech for interpretation of results
  • Broken temp mix flap arm/disconnected control wire
  • Binding/worn/misaligned temp mix flaps
  • Bad temp mix flap control motor

• Frost from vents (or on pipes)
  • "Freeze-up" switch defective
  • Expansion valve stuck open
