I've owned several of the og 9-3 autos and they are fine cars don' listen to all the negativity! most maintenance can be done by yourself if you are fairly handy EG for the A/C ? I bought a set of gauges, a vacuum pump, a cheap accurate scale and a 20 lb tank of genuine Dupont R134a for less than 250 $ and it's enough to do 5-+? cars! I'll do a few cars and ask donations for the freon yes it will need some worn out parts replaced ! good advice set $ aside ! and that price is nuts unless it is perfect! The viggens are really about the best car Saab ever made and for certain the fastest 4 cyl! ( mine is insured for $15K agreed value, no deductable w/ Haggarty ! ) some of these posters comments crack me up! and whilst I like the 9K the thing is ancient now! time for them to mostly be used sparingly and preserved. you want a cheap car to use, use up you could do a lot worse than an OG 9-3 but as said that price is insane unless it is 10/10 condition w/ a full-service history! DO do a sump drop, and DO fit the latest gen 6 breathers assy (whoever said they didn't? wouldn't ? wrong, sorry! there is no reason why it" would increase oil consumption" ! thats a hoot ) and when you find it's a sound car fit all the usual genuine Saab bits like a steering rack brace, 6 point brace, bigger ASB etc it makes the car better no doubt. PS there are 2010-2011 9-5 being sold now for 8K$ and up w/ low miles ! why not get one ! use it up ! LOT s newer !
