Color: Burnt Orange Trans: Manual Mileage: 97,XXX Price: $12,000
All original except engine power increased in 2001, and extra rustproofing done by first owner 45+ years ago when it was new. Nothing has been patched, painted over, or covered with undercoating, so you can see its true condition. Drive it like it is or give it the beautiful paint job it deserves. Retired and downsizing from three SAABs to one SAAB is the reason for selling this Sonett. Purchased in 2001 from the second owner. First owner (an engineer and racer) successfully enhanced the rustproofing so there is no significant rust. Engine rebuilt in 2001 at 70,572 miles with the following from Motor Sport Service: Intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetor, street cam, oversize pistons, steel timing gear set, lightened flywheel, etc. for increased power. Also added heads with bigger hardened valves/seats for unleaded gas, PerTronix electronic ignition, electric cooling fan and Jack Ashcraft coolant filter. Brake and clutch systems converted to DOT 5 silicone fluid. Brake master re-sleeved, front calipers rebuilt, new front rotors, pads and rear wheel cylinders. New clutch master and slave cylinders. Transaxle rebuilt 9/2016 at about 92,000 miles by Tom Donney at Fort Dodge Transmission. Tom's rebuild included his modifications to upgrade the clutch disk and pressure plate, and he locked out the freewheel for increased life and reliability. This Sonett has a rare correct OEM/Scandix dual exhaust and like-new correct Vredestein Sprint Classic 155SR15 tires. Never-blastered wheels still have their original machining marks and center caps. Cibie headlights and period-correct driving lights. Two sets of Sonett seats are included. The seats installed in the car have sheepskin seating surfaces. The second pair of seats have the original upholstery. Also included are a custom-fit Beverly Hills car cover and three manuals: Official SAAB Sonett III Service Manual and SAAB V4 Drivetrain Service Manual, plus Autobook 764 Workshop manual for 95 and 96 V4 for 1966–75 (See picture in Member Gallery). Barn find not run since the late 1980's. Original color yellow. VIN # 000006, 8/1973. Odometer says 29,000, may not be correct but very doubtful it is 129,000. Car is complete, engine cranks with jumper box, rolls freely when pushed and the old style Michelin X tires still have air. Great for restoration or survivor class!

This car has been through a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration over the last three years. I bought this car from a dealer auctioning his entire SAAB dealership. This was his car, completely original. The only thing I did not do was paint the car, it had been painted in 2009 and still looks fantastic with only a few minor defects, Immediately after I purchased the car the clutch hydraulics failed. That's when the "project creep" set in... while I'm here I might as well... you get the idea. So I removed the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, interior, etc. The engine was overhauled with .030 oversize pistons, several new valves, new bearings, Weber 2bbl, steel timing gears, fan delete. The transmission went to Ft Dodge where Tom Donney's shop overhauled it. New clutch hydraulics, brake hydraulics, new brake lines, rotors, pads, new suspension bushings, rod ends, shocks. All hardware that was reused was cad-plated. New electrical relays, custom gauge cluster, HID headlights and other lighting upgrades. Too much to list. Tom Donney saw the car while it was disassembled and he told me I had one of the finest Sonett III's in the country.

Project Car-Looking to find a new home for this project car from an estate. Obviously needs a lot of work, so am selling as-is, parts car. I don't know if will start or run. Car is untested. I expect that you would need a trailer to remove the car. There are some extra parts including a rear panel and a passenger side door that are included. There is also an engine and transmission that may be from a similar car or may have been intended to be installed in the car. The engine block is one a mechanics engine lift. The transmission is located on a small dolly. I also have some parts, such as the instrument panel, new side mirrors and the original owners manual. All is included. I have the title for the car and will sign as personal representative. If you are interested in this 1971 Saab Sonett project car, please call to make an offer.

Has been converted to 2 barrel Weber carburetor. Has had distributor changed from ignition points to electronic ignition. Has new tires on it. Has new clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and resurfaced flywheel. Has new fuel pump and water pump. Engine has been repainted black with blue valve covers. Car could use a paint job and a tiny bit of body work. Has a slight oil leak. Headliner was removed before I bought the car 2 years ago. Has a crack around the parking brake lever in the floorboard. That’s the only place that there is any problem with the floorboard. It has a dent in one spot of the drivers side rocker panel. Has free-wheel that still works.

VIN 97735001530. Sonett III, owned by Saab enthusiast being sold only due to age (mine not the car) and a cross country move; I am in Austin Texas and the car is in Charlottesville Virginia. The car was restored in Denver about 13 years ago and has NO rust. Original interior with reattached headliner, nice soccer ball wheels (including spare) with very good 145-15 tires. The engine compartment is complete and the 1700cc V4 is all original/stock. All glass is original and in good shape. Original air conditioning is in place except the evaporator which is disconnected and in the boot. Ton Dinh of International Imports in Charlottesville VA just rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the clutch master, reset the timing, and replaced the clutch and brake hoses. He says the car is now ready for the road. The issue with the car is that while it sat at Ton’s shop someone “keyed” it. That is the reason for my low asking price (I was previously offered $6000). Please call Donna or Annie at International Imports in Charlottesville VA for an appointment to see the car (434-972-7222). Call me in Texas to discuss the car or to make an offer (512-943-0667).
