Saab 92
-------

A Short Description
-------------------

Car Body
--------

The Saab-92 is provided with a steel body, welded to a self-supporting unit, to which the various moving parts are attached by means of a small number of bolts. The welded steel construction has made it possible to design a streamlining, which has been thoroughly tested in windtunnel. Among other things the bottom of the car is designed completely smooth in order to improve the streamlining. The air resistance of the Saab-92 is only half of that of the conventional car.

The windshield has a pronounced slope. It is divided in two parts and slightly V-shaped. The windshield up-rights are narrow, in order to provide excellent vision. The fenders, which are replaceable, reach down to the wheel hub and the smooth surfaces obtained thereby contribute considerably to the low air resistance of the car. The shape of the fenders prevents splashing on the body and protects the tires from the sun. In spite of this, replacement of the wheels is done easily, as the main part of the wheel will come clear of the fender when the car has been jacked up.

Thanks to the large, smooth surfaces of the car, it is very easy to wash. The spare tire, stored in the lower rear part of the car is accessible from the outside through an access door in the rear of the car. The hood opens forward-upwards.

Chassis
----------

The Chassis has no frame. All four wheels are individually torsion sprung. Steering and spring geometry provides perfect alignment to the wheels in all movements.

All suspended parts of the springing are replaceable.

All four wheels are provided with hydraulic shock absorbers.

The brake system is hydraulic and works on all four wheels. The emergency brake is mechanical, though and its lever is located between the front seats and works on the rear wheels.

The car is steered by means of rack and pinions and two steering rods with ball joints. The design of body and chassis provides excellent roadability and riding comfort.

Pittings
------

The Saab-92 accommodates 4 persons, two in front and two in the rear. All seats are designed so as to obtain greatest possible comfort during sustained traveling. The front seats fold forward in order to facilitate access to the rear seats. The front seats are also longitudinally adjustable.

The car has two doors provided with window panes which may be let down by means of cranks.

The steering wheel is located on the left side.

The gear shift is located on the steering column.

The luggage space is easily accessible by means of folding the rear back rest forward.

All space for the engine, the gas tank, the spare tire, the tools and the luggage are locked from the inside and kept safe when the doors of the car are locked.

Walls, roof and floor are heat and sound insulated.
