Saab's Kjell Ac Bergstrom To Head Technical Development at New Fiat-GM Powertrain Joint Venture Company
NORCROSS, Ga. - Kjell ac Bergstrom, Saab Automobile's Vice President of Powertrain, has been appointed Vice President, Product Engineering of a new Fiat-GM Powertrain joint venture company. He will be responsible for the development of engines and transmissions for Saab, OpelNauxhall, Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo cars.
The new company of nearly 27,000 employees handles GM powertrain operations for Europe and Latin America, and all Fiat powertrain operations. It comprises a total of five development centers, 19 production plants in 11 countries, and has an annual production capacity of 7 million engines and 6.6 million transmissions. The new company is headquartered in Turin, Italy.
While at Saab, Bergstrom headed up the Powertrain division - GM's Center of Expertise for turbocharging. Saab recently announced a number of groundbreaking engine technologies that improve fuel economy and reduce emissions while not impairing power, including the Saab Variable Compression engine concept and the Saab Combustion Control system.
