Check engine light and gas cap

Does the 9-3 have the same funkiness that if the gas cap is not put on just right, the CEL will come on? Car only has 28,000 and I'm nervous..too many lights coming on! Just drove it to NYC and back about 400 miles round trip, and today, the check engine light comes on..
Have also noticed that the gas cap doesn't have a discernable 'click' to it and I thought it did the last few fill ups...it actually seems a little loose to me...anyone else? it's an '04 9-3 Linear...
HELP!
