Dave, your directions were great. I am seriously non-mechanical, but hate getting ripped off by the garage, but with your step by step I managed to "get er done".
The garage told me they had the cassette in stock and it was $410.00. I went to eeuro.com and got it for $289 with FREE SHIPPING.
Two things to add...i stripped out the torxx driver that came with the car. the plastic handle is typically cheap. my son had a stanley torxx screwdriver, but the garage had tightened the screws so hard we couldn't get them loose. i found that you can get a socket (by the way the size you need is a "T-30 Star Socket"...it made the job simple with the extra torque needed to get the screws out.
also, the only other thing that gave me any problem was disconnecting the cassette from the harness. i have a 2000 9.3 with the BLACK module, and i'd never seen anything like the red clip. i re-read your directions about loosening with the screwdriver and couldn't seem to figure out "what to loosen" and by mistake got the clip to pop out the way it's supposed to work. can't decide how to describe for other non-mechanical types like me...but here goes; when you look at the connector, one side is a full piece of red plastic and the other side is 2 single pieces of red...you need to push on the two single pieces to push the locking connector out the other side....I slid the screwdriver in on the side with the full red piece and kind of pried it, and it started popping out. it won't disconnect until it's fully pushed thru to the other side.
guess i just proved what a non-mech i am...oh well, i really appreciate the info.
