I think the 210 hp 05 will be a pleasent suprize...Power is where you need it for fast freeway merges and passing cars. I think too much is made of 0-60 times in auto magazines...How often do you go from a stop and: 1. Slip your clutch to burn some rubber to go as fast as you can to 60 OR 2. Power-break your auto trans and do the same?
2005 SAAB's turbo power range is VERY good and has VERY little lag (as compared to my 1999 93, I actually have a '03 ARC too). But I will say once you master the old 93 the onset on the turbo boost is very fun! Anyway many 6's aren't getting 221 ft/lbs of torque at 2500 rpm all the way up to the high rpm's.
I drive A LOT in outside sales and I can say that the 210 hp 220 ft/lbs from the current engine has plenty of power to get up and around slower cars on the highway and get on to a fast moving freeway. Those to me are real world situations. In some car mags they do a 45-75 mph test I think thats more like the test that has applications in the "real world".
I'm not saying the V6 isn't appreciated...I just think its a judgement call about how much is enough. Cars are so fast today compared to 10 years ago...
I'll be interested to see the gas mileage of the V6 and what the 6 speed auto does for gas mileage. If its the same or better mpg its a slam dunk but if you trade off fuel econmomy knowing that the 4 is pretty darn fast It would be a tough call.
SAAB was rated for reliability verses AUDI, BMW and Mercedes in Germany (where the bias from consumers is that German cars are the best) and suprize SAAB had way better reliabilty stats (along with many Japanese cars...). I hope I continue to have good luck...Even w/ my 1999 and 2003 Saabs.
Good luck
BTW consider buying a certified used SAAB thay have a 100,000 mile FACTORY warranty.
