Keep it for another 90k.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Thu, 4 Aug 2005 16:27:40 In Reply to: 9-3ss, 9-3, Thu, 4 Aug 2005 10:01:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
KBB.com lists the Private Party Value in good condition at $13.4k for an auto with a roof and 90k miles. That's optimistic in my opinion. Kelley doesn't allow/deduct enough for high miles.
So if you're keeping it I wouldn't worry about the next 90k. Nothing in the next 90k, up to 180k and beyond is destined to "wear out" or require a "major repair". It's had synthetic oil in it since new right? A tear down right now would probably show almost no measurable wear. There is an uncertainty about other components in the car, starters, clutches, batteries, HVAC motors and controls, windows, power steering components, CV joints and such that aren't lubricated with synthetic oil, in any higher mileage car, but those are pretty durable in modern cars too.
After 90k it's more about the attention that the rest of the car gets as opposed to the predestined failure of any major component.
