I have been having the strangest problem with my 9-3SS for the last 2 months, and the dealer cannot diagnose it (no fault codes are stored).
First thing each morning when I attempt to start the car, it will start up, RPMs move up higher than normal (as all other cars do when they first start up), but then when the engine RPMs drop down to idle, they continue down below the normal idle, and the car will either (a) stall or (b) sputter above/below the normal idle in an attempt to keep from stalling for about 5 seconds, finally righting itself at about 800 rpm. This will not happen again the rest of the day, it starts normally any time other than my first start of the day.
Some other clues were:
- Dealer changed the spark plugs early last week. Problem continues.
- Dealer performed a "fuel system service" 2 weeks ago. Problem continues.
-The problem has gotten progressively worse (i.e. now it's happening every day, whereas 2 months ago, it would happen once a week).
-I don't think there's a battery problem, when I turn the key in the morning, all of the dash lights seem to work fine.
-There doesn't seem to be as many complete stalls if I turn the Air conditioning to OFF. It will still stutter though.
Any inputs from anyone are appreciated. I am going to try and leave it at the dealer overnight next week to see if they can replicate the issue.
