Automatic transmission is made by Aisin(Japan). If there would be manual, it would be from Germany or Sweden(not quite sure). I dont think that Saab has ever made their own automatic gearboxes, very unlikely.
Trionic 8 engine that is in 9-3 SS, is made in Germany(GM).
Old Trionic 7 level gasoline engines are still made in Sweden.
This will give you some idea:

One tendency is to get rid of small low volume production(like engines) and centralize. Other tendency is externalize/outsource things(like automatic), it would make no sense to design and build low volume yourself.
Cars are made more and more by subcontractors, I think it was Forbes or something that predicted dearth of car makers, they would only be subcontractors and people would puzzle cars way they want to.
But one thing I must say about outsource, GM Saab Opel, they are really starting to be the same, you cant talk about outsource between them. One big happy company as Lutz wants it.
