If it were my car I would change it now. The long oil change intervals are a "zero maintenance" marketing ploy designed to sell cars. The manufacturer is betting that most people will sell or trade the car before any effects of a long oil change interval show up. In fact a certain percentage of cars won't even make it that far without issues. It is cheaper for the manufacturer to replace a small percentage of engines than it is to do "free regular maintenance" at 7500 miles for every single car.
If you plan on keeping the car beyond the warranty period I would do oil changes every 7500 miles, or shorter for severe driving conditions.
FYI We just bought a new E320 wagon for my wife - Mercedes recommends 13,000 miles for an oil change. We're going to change the oil every 6,500 miles.
