CPO is a value.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Tue, 1 Nov 2005 16:35:27 In Reply to: Re: GM extended vs. CPO, Larry in Seattle, Mon, 31 Oct 2005 16:54:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The actual CPO policy is only $1,200 to the dealer and is a very good value. Say your were buying a CPO off lease that was exactly 3 years old with 35,999 miles. You'd have 1 year and 14k left on the factory warranty and the CPO would extend that 2 years and 50k, 6/100 total. A 36 mos 60k GMPP MajorGuard is $2,690 list and would run from the date purchased, not the in-service date, so that would take you through two years beyond the factory warranty (one year overlap) and 96k, almost the same as CPO coverage of 6/100
CPO coverage and GMPP MajorGuard coverage is a toss up. Both are "bumper to bumper" or exclusionary warranties with a small list of what's not covered which are the normal wear and adjustment type things that common sense would dictate. One slight improvement of MajorGuard over Saab CPO is that MajorGuard covers the radio and telematics which is specifically excluded under Saab's CPO. On the other hand if your Saab dealer is not also a GM dealer, than the processing and handling of the Saab CPO is much easier as it is the same as the factory warranty and no additonal claims and approvals are needed.
