Agree with Mike about the need to have wear items checked on a more frequent basis than Owners' Manual requires.
I have had front brakes replaced under warranty on 2 Saabs at around 20K miles for premature wear.
All owners should have their brakes checked at both the 10K and 20K checkups. By the time you get to 30K, Saab can claim (and rightly so) that it is normal wear.
I think it is a design flaw in the brake pads, although I find the braking system excellent overall.
