My installation was done similar to Ron H.'s, except that my antenna is mounted in front at the top of the windshield. The installer (not a Saab dealer) did not want to chance routing antenna through or around the convertible top mechanism and I concurred. No wiring is visible from the inside of the car and only a fraction of an inch of wiring shows outside.
The XM works well with the regular stereo, via the AUX port. Volume is controlled in the steering wheel, as is the media selection (Radio, CD, XM), via the "SRC" button. The selection will always revert to the last chosen of Radio/CD and you will need to select "AUX" each time you start the car. I understand that this may be changed by a Tech II adjustment.
Tuning must be done separately, but the XM Commander does come with a remote control. Use of presets are highly recommended, as the unit sits very low in the dashboard and will take concentration away from the road if you channel surf.
Song/channel titles are not shown in the eye level pod like the radio/CD, but are shown instead on the XM unit.
All in all, it's what you would expect from a decent aftermarket set-up.
Hope this helps,
gatorcpa
