Oppurtunity, but you still haven't tried it... One very nice thing about the 9-3SS is that the Sentronic slap shifting holds the gear even if you redline it. Many cars including the Saab 9-5 will upshift in the manual shift mode at redline, which knocks you up a gear when your were trying to use the engine power to control the car. The 9-3 won't upshift, it throttles back or reduces the engine parameters so you never find yourself in an unexpected gear.
My mom had a similar pardigm about clothes dryers when they came out. She didn't like the smell of clothes from a clothes dryer, thought clothes should smell like the outdoors. After some use (which you admit you haven't done) she grew pretty fond of not having damp clothes with bird poo on them. Tool a little experience to see the light and change her paradigm.
For most of your serious highspeed performance driving a clutch is pretty superfulous.
