Are you sure it is a 2003 and not a 2002 or older. The ignition cassette recall doesn't include the 2003 9-3 (convertible in that case).
Below is the text that Saab put out about what the software will do.
<Support for Tech 2 special function to detect Ignition Discharge Module failure. Improved control of ignition trig drivers to protect Ignition Discharge Module. Cold engine protection implemented. Improved CC tip in / out. Improved knock detection.>
You probably won't feel any difference in driving but it is more of the nature to add fault tracing features for the ignition cassette and protection of it and engine.
It is a lot of different views about the software upgrade and some dealers suggest to have it done and others don't.
No one knows for sure (except in the deep dark vaults of Saab headquarter) but since that particular software is installed from factory in all late 2003 and up 9-5s too, I feel it must be a reason for it and it should be done.
Also, this cars post (I assume a 2003 or older 9-3) belongs in the OG9-3/NG900 board since this board handles the 2003 and up 9-3SS models which uses a different ignition system with seperate ignition coils.
