Good audio sound is a big part of my driving experience and enjoyment. I'm about to schedule my Saab for its first scheduled maintenance and my only real gripe is with the poor sound quality of the audio system. The rear speakers have next to no power feeding them. Although it seems that Saab purposely put more power into the front speakers, the rears in my car seem like an afterthought. I read somewhere that the rear speakers should act like subwoofers, but this is not the case. The fader provides no improvement. Suggestions when approaching the dealer? The local audio guy (who is not on commission) was appalled by the sound quality and thought the factory might want to install a new amp.
Second, the sound from the XM commander included in my lease is terrible (hollow and low clarity). And now I get whistling when I accelerate!! The range of sound is much lower than the radio and I have to adjust the treble way up and bass way down just to get some minimal tone each time I switch on my XM. When I insert my ipod aux plug in place of the XM, the difference in sound quality is amazing. Aside from the rear/front speaker disparity, the Ipod sounds great. The local shop keeper thought the XM Commander might be getting its electricty from a weaker source (perhaps a lighting feed rather than direct battery) and it may have a bad ground. Any suggestions??
Finally, the XM antenna was placed on the dash just below the security light. I expected Saab to install it in the roof-top sharkfin, just behind it, or on the trunk. Unfortunately, I seem to get XM static more often than I did on my previous car (w/ rooftop placement). The local shop suggested that it could be based on the overall location, but it also mentioned that the windshield itself might play a role. He said that cars like Audi and others with heat reflecting screens screw up the signal. Anyone have any info on this or any suggestions?
