I finally bought my new Aero. Now that I've driven it a couple of days I like it even more than I thought I would, and I thought I would like it a lot. What a nice car.
I have a few questions:
1) There is a strange sound that I think only happens breaking (but it's so quiet it could be all the time and I only hear it as the car is stopping). It's a gravelly-like sound that I think it coming from the rear. Breaks? Bearings? It sounds very unhealthy but at the same time is very quiet.
2) The numbers in the heads up display (mpg, etc) display with commas as the decimal point (euro style). I've made sure that "US" is the selection for Units instead of "Imperial" or "Metric", but I still get commas. Is there a way to fix that?
3) I'd like to get the AC venting (outside air vs recirculate interior air) to remember it's setting across restarts of the car. I asked about this when shopping for it and me and the salesman tried it, and on the lot it remembered it's setting across restarts. But off the lot it doesn't. heh. Is it just the amount of time between restarts? Does it remember if you never took the "key" out, or something?
While I haven't had it very long I strongly recommend this vehicle. $4500 incentive right now on all the 06's. And the 07 doesn't have the heads up display and got rid of some of the buttons in favor of more dials, and I didn't want either change. You can get a new 06 SC Aero for < 30K right now easily.
So far the biggest surprise has been the handling. I was expecting a step down from my 95 Jetta GLX. Instead it's actually a big step up. The only compromise has been the low front overhang and the turning radius. In every other way it's better than my old VR6 Jetta, which was a great car. It's also a lot better than my wife's 01 9-3 hatchback.
